Play Craps Online
In the game of Craps, players wager money against the casino on the outcome of one roll, or of a series of rolls, of two dice. Craps can also be played in less formal settings as was seen in the great movie, "Guys and Dolls". It is reputedly popular among soldiers. Side bets are frequent and the scene generally is a real gambling one. Online craps lends itself to house parties and home entertainment.
Playing Craps
'Craps' is a game that is as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. It all depends on the way you bet. Basically craps is a table game played by several players, with the player who rolls the dice called the "shooter." It involves the shooter rolling the dice, and all of the players betting on the numbers that come up or don't come up. Players place bets before the shooter rolls the dice.
The shooter's first roll of the dice is called the "come out roll." Before this, players place what are called "pass line bets." The outcome of these bets depends on what the come out roll will be. Pass line bets are immediate winners if the come out roll is 7 or 11, and they are immediate losers if the come out roll is 2, 3, or 12. As for the remaining numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10, they become the "point" if they come up. If the shooter rolls the point, he or she must continue rolling the dice until either the number identified as the point or a 7 comes up. If the point comes up before 7, all pass line bets win. If the opposite happens, all pass line bets lose. Either way, nothing will happen in a game of craps until one of these two numbers appears, so there's a theoretical chance that the game could continue all night. It adds to the fun!
A History of Craps
It is commonly believed that Craps originated from an ancient game called Hazard, however, the origins of both are not very clear. it is said that Hazard was invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre and his knights, during the crusades. The game served as a pastime for the crusaders while laying siege to a castle called Hazarth or Asart in 1125 AD. The name of Hazard is therefore thought to be a mispronunciation of the castle's name. However the Encyclopedia Britannica claims that the name came from the Arabic words 'al zar' or 'azzah' which translate as "the dice". This historic version implies that the game has Arabic origins.
Hazard was also played by the French and it is said that they changed the name to Craps, a name given to one of the losing throws in the game. No-one has succeeded in confirming this.
Whether the game was brought to America by the British or French is a matter of opinion, but it caught on at American casinos and has been popular ever since.
Tips for Winning at Craps
The most basic tip that any gambler should learn is that they need to know how to play the game before they try to play it. This may sound elementary but many novice players approach a game table not knowing what bets can be made, how to request more chips, and how to win the game they are trying to play. You can avoid all of these problems by simply reading the instructions for the game a couple of times before you approach a craps table. If you are still unsure about how the game is played, try sitting out a few games to see how the other players are betting, shooting, and interacting with each other and the dealer. Learn from their examples. If all else fails you can ask the dealer for help, however, their advice should be taken with a grain of salt as they will probably try to get you to make a bet that has a higher house advantage rate.
